FAQCommon questions

Does the scan change anything in my store?

No. The scan only reads. Costs change only when you apply a fix you have previewed, or when you turn on auto-apply for an auto-fill rule.

What counts as a missing cost?

A variant whose cost per item is blank, or set to $0. Shopify's profit reports leave out sales of variants with no cost, and count a $0 cost as pure profit, so both make your margins look better than they are.

Why only the last 60 days of revenue?

Costwyn uses Shopify's standard read_orders permission, which gives apps orders from the last 60 days (Shopify access scopes). We don't ask for access to older orders.

How do I fix costs in bulk?

Open Fix costs, pick a rule (a fixed amount, a percent of price, the ratio from the product's other variants, or a pasted list of SKUs and costs), choose which variants it applies to, and check the preview. Nothing is written until you click Apply. Applying fixes is part of the Fix + Watch plan; scanning, the dashboard, CSV export and previews are free.

How does undo work?

Every batch keeps the cost each variant had before. Open History & undo and click Undo on any batch. If you edited a variant's cost yourself after the fix, Costwyn leaves that variant alone instead of overwriting your edit. Undo is free, even after you cancel.

Does Costwyn edit my orders?

No. Costwyn can read orders to measure sales, but it has no permission to edit them. It only changes the cost per item on product variants, after you preview and apply a fix.

How does Watch work?

On Fix + Watch, Costwyn re-checks every week you're active, and catches new or edited products as they happen. When a variant gets a blank or $0 cost, you see an alert in the app. Auto-fill rules suggest costs for you to approve. If you turn on auto-apply for a rule, it only fills blank or $0 costs, within set limits, and every run can be undone.

How do I change or cancel my plan?

Open Plan in the app and choose Change or cancel plan. Shopify handles plan changes, the 7-day free trial and billing, so there's nothing to arrange with us. You keep the free scan, dashboard, CSV export and undo.

The scan says “order access needed”.

That means Shopify didn't give the app access to orders yet, so Costwyn could only check your catalogue. Costs can still be found and fixed; revenue totals appear once order access is available. Email us if it doesn't clear.

What happens to my data if I uninstall?

Your session is deleted straight away, and all of your store's data is deleted when Shopify sends its shop deletion request 48 hours later. Details are in our privacy policy.

01Getting started

  • Install Costwyn from the Shopify App Store and approve its permissions. The app opens inside your Shopify admin.
  • Run the free scan. Costwyn lists every variant with a blank or $0 cost, ranked by the revenue it earned recently.
  • Review and fix. Pick a rule, check the preview, then apply. Undo any batch from History & undo.
  • Stay covered with Fix + Watch: in-app alerts for new blank or $0 costs, and auto-fill rules for new products.

Your staff account needs Shopify's “View product costs” permission to see costs in the admin.
